Undergraduate Admissions

Five Towns College seeks applicants of high moral character who have the interest and potential to benefit from the educational opportunities afforded by its programs. The College encourages applications from students who will engage themselves fully in its creative community, and who will contribute to academic discourse with honor and integrity. The College values students whose interests reflect curiosity and commitment, as well as excitement for the spirit of intellectual pursuits.

Students seeking a place in the entering class should have attained a minimum high school grade point average of 80% or a GED score of at least 2500. Application for admissions can be made at anytime as the College offers rolling admissions, so it is not too late to apply. All auditions and interview requirements must be met before acceptance can be completed. Applications that meet the admission requirements are notified on a rolling basis and generally receive decisions two to four weeks after receipt at which time a $500 refundable tuition deposit is required from accepted applicants. Prospective students who plan to apply for scholarships or other financial aid should submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. They must submit a completed Undergraduate Admission Application, official school transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a personal statement and any other needed documentation to complete this file. There is an application fee of $35. The new SAT or ACT exam is required of all freshmen entering the College.

EARLY DECISIONS

Well-qualified students for whom Five Towns College is their first choice must submit their application, all supporting material, and meet audition and interview requirements on or before December 1. Students will be informed of the admissions decision within two weeks of receipt of all materials. In order to apply under Five Towns College's Early Decision Program, students must sign the Early Decision Agreement stating that if accepted early, all other college applications will be withdrawn and the student will attend Five Towns College. Students contemplating Early Decision are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office to schedule an interview.

ADMISSION

AUDITIONS AND INTERVIEWS

Admission into any music program is contingent upon passing an audition demonstrating skill in performance on a major instrument/voice. The applicant must perform two contrasting songs of their choice. Music students must show proficiency in harmony, sight-singing and ear training in order to demonstrate talent and well-developed musicianship.

STUDENT RETENTION

Several significant factors bear upon retention, attrition, and graduation/completion rates that are not related to this or any other college. Periodic surveys indicate that the major factors affecting persistence are financial circumstances, or changes in career goals. The following data should be interpreted in light of these factors. Of the first time freshman that entered into a baccalaureate program in the Fall 1998, 62% completed the program in 150% or less of the time normally allotted. Of these graduates, 41% graduated from the College and 21% transferred to another College for which their coursework at Five Towns College provided substantial preparation.

PLACEMENT OF GRADUATES

A survey of students from the graduating Class of 2004 was conducted during the six month period following graduation. Of those who responded to the College survey of graduates, 78% reported that they were employed, 17% were continuing their education, and 5% were not employed. A follow-up survey of students from the graduating Class of 2001 was conducted following a three year period after graduation. Of those who responded to the survey of graduates, 93% reported that they were employed, 7% responded that they were not employed. Of those who responded, 20% reported that they were continuing their education.
